Advent III

Also known as: Third Sunday of Advent, Gaudete Sunday

Advent III is the third Sunday in the liturgical calendar as well as the third in the season of Advent.

The liturgical color changes from violet to rose (or "pink").

As there is no rose tunicle for the acolyte, he should vest in cassock and surplice, but still perform the usual acolyte duties.

Three candles are lit in the Advent wreath in the chancel.  These are the violet candle directly opposite the rose candle, the next violet candle moving counter clockwise, and the rose candle.

The setting of the mass is Plainsong for the Kyrie, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus DeiThe Gloria is omitted in Advent.

The Proper of the mass is at DWM pg. 160.

The celebrant, rather than the deacon, reads the Prayers of the People using Form I (See DWM 1048).

The Preface is the Preface of Advent (DWM pg 582)
