Summary of the law

An exhortation by the deacon during the Liturgy of the Word, facing the people.

This is said just after the Collect for Purity and before the Kyrie.

During the Summary of the Law, servers should be standing at their places in the choir stalls

The sacred ministers (other than the deacon) should continue to face the altar, bowing at the words Jesus Christ.

Then facing the People, the Deacon, or Priest may say:

The Summary of the Law

Hear what our Lord Jesus Christ saith:

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it: thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.
