Dismissal

An exhortation (usually by the deacon) to the people in the Concluding Rites at the end of mass, just after the Blessing and before the Recessional.

During the dismissal, the servers remain kneeling at their places in the choir stalls. At the conclusion, as the sacred ministers are making their way down to the foot of the altar, the servers rise and form the recessional.

Then the deacon, or the Priest, with hands joined and facing the People, sings or says:

Go forth in peace.

Thanks be to God.

or:

Depart in peace.

Thanks be to God.

If there is a procession:

Let us proceed in peace.

In the name of Christ. Amen.

From the Easter Vigil until the Octave Day of Easter and on the Day of Pentecost:

Go forth in peace. Alleluia. Alleluia.

Thanks be to God. Alleluia. Alleluia.
