Introit

Part of the Order of Mass

Entrance chant at the beginning of the Introductory Rites, just after the Entrance Procession and before the Salutation.

The Introit is part of the Proper of the Mass, varying based on the date in the liturgical calendar, as prescribed in the altar missal.

The Introit is either said by the celebrant or sung by the choir.

During the Introit, the servers are standing at their places in the choir stalls, bowing at the Gloria Patri (Glory be to the Father...).

At the beginning of the Introit, and at the celebrants' signal, the acolyte proceeds with the other sacred ministers up to the altar. The acolyte bows his head as the the celebrant osculates (kisses the altar).

If the altar is censed, this is done during the Introit.
