Comfortable words

Words said by the deacon at the end of the Penitential Rite, just before the Announcements.

During the Comfortable Words, the servers are all kneeling in their places at the altar step.

The sacred ministers are standing at the altar, with the celebrant and acolyte facing the altar and the deacon facing the congregation.

After the Comfortable Words, the servers all stand in their places in the pews. As the sacred ministers they all sit simultaneously.

HEAR what comfortable words our Savior Christ saith unto all who truly turn to him.

Come unto me, all ye that travail and are heavy laden, and I will refresh you.

God so loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, to the end that all that believe in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The deacon may continue with:

HEAR also what Saint Paul saith:

This is a true saying, and worth of all men to be received, that Christ Jesus came into this world to save sinners.

HEAR also what Saint John saith:

If any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and he is the Propitiation for our sins (and not for ours only, but for the sins of the whole world).
