Using the thurible (or censer) to surround an object or individual with incense smoke.

This is done multiple times during the mass:

• The First Censing of the altar - at the Introit

• The censing of the Gospel - at the Gospel Procession

• Censing of the homilist - after the Gospel

• The Second Censing of the altar, ministers and people - at the Offertory

• Censing of the Sacred Elements - at the Consecration
