MC

Also known as: Master of Ceremonies, MC of the Mass.

Ritual notes: The MC at Solemn Mass

A senior server who is responsible for overall coordination and supervision of the altar servers during mass.

His duties also include moving the altar missal when required, holding the hand paten during the Communion of the Faithful, and collecting and returning the birettas.

Not to be confused with other MCs such as the MC to the Bishop or MCs appointed at special masses (e.g. for visiting clergy).

The MC vests in cassock and surplice, using a special lace-edged surplice.

The MC processes behind the other servers, ahead of the acolyte.
