Homily

A lesson preached by either a priest or deacon during the Liturgy of the Word, drawing on the readings of the day and/or the teachings of the Church.

Typically spoken from the pulpit.

This occurs directy after the Gospel and before the Creed.

During the homily, the thurifer should discretely go to the vestry to freshen the coals in the thurible and light the torches for communion.

The Homily

Then follows the homily, which is to be preached by a priest or Deacon on all Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation; on other days, a homily is recommended.
