Peace

Also known as: Pax, Exchange of Peace

When the Peace is exchanged between the sacred ministers during the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

This occurs immediately after the Our Father and before the Pascha Nostrum

Servers do not exchange the Peace with each other. Typically the celebrant exchanges the Peace with the deacon, and the deacon with the acolyte.

Servers should kneel as soon as the celebrant has exchanged the Peace, in anticipation of the Pascha Nostrum.

The Peace includes a prayer by the celebrant followed by the exchange of Peace.

Then bowing in the middle of the altar, with hands joined upon it, the Priest says:

O Lord Jesus Christ, who saidst to thine Apostles, Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you: Regard not our sins, but the faith of thy Church; and grant to her peace and unity according to thy will; who livest and reignest with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.

The Priest kisses the altar and, turning towards the People and extending his hands, he sings or says:

The peace of the Lord be always with you.

People: And with thy spirit.

The Priest gives the Kiss of Peace to the Deacon and to any Concelebrants present. The Deacon, in turn, offers the Peace to the next Minister and so forth.

The People may offer one another a sign of peace.

The People kneel.
