Ablution cup

Covered dish of water used by extraordinary ministers or concelebrating priests to wash their fingers after receiving Communion.

The ablution cup is typically kept in the sacristy. It is retrieved by the MC and brought to the concelebrating priest at his seat after he has received communion or after he has finished distributing communion. The MC then immediately returns it to the sacristy.

The ablution cup is not used for the Bishop. If the Bishop is present, the MC to the Bishop brings the pontifical ewer and basin to the Bishop at his cathedra when he is ready to ablute his hands.
