Communion of the Faithful

Distribution of communion to the people at the chancel rail during the Communion Rite.

When the celebrant has recieved communion in both forms, the acolyte moves to the center of the altar, genuflects, goes to the credence table, and takes up the patens. He gives one paten to the crucifer, then kneels to recieve communion, holding the paten for himself as he receives.

The acolyte continues with the celebrant, holding the paten, as the celebrant communicates the servers and then proceeds to the chancel rail.

The crucifer, upon receiving the paten from the acolyte, rises and moves to the Gospel side of the altar steps (genuflecting on the way), kneels and passes the paten to the MC. The MC, still kneeling, holds the paten for the Deacon as he communicates the servers on the Gospel side. He then rises and proceeds with the Deacon to the chancel rail.

As the ministers leave the sanctuary, the servers all rise and mover to their places in the choirs stalls and kneel. The exception is the crucifer who remains standing and watching the ministers in the event they need assistance.

The people come forward, kneel on the communion cushion at the chancel rail, and receive communion from the celebrant or deacon while a server holds a hand paten beneath the Blessed Sacrament.

The Priest genuflects and says in a low voice:

The Body of our Lord Jesus Christ, which was given for me, preserve my body and soul unto everlasting life. Amen.

And he reverently consumes the Body of Christ. Then he takes the Chalice and says quietly:

The Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, which was shed for me, preserve my body and soul unto everlasting life. Amen.

And he reverently consumes the Blood of Christ.
The the Communion Antiphon may be sung or said.
Then he distributes Holy Communion to the Minister and to the People with these words:

The Body of our Lord Jesus Christ, which was given for thee, preserve thy body and soul unto everlasting life.

Or:

The Body of Christ.

The Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, which was shed for thee, preserve thy body and soul unto everlasting life.

Or:

The Blood of Christ.

Or with these words, if Holy Communion is administered in both kind together:

The Body and Blood of our lord Jesus Christ, preserve thy body and soul unto everlasting life.

Or:

The Body and Blood of Christ.

If a Deacon or other Minister also distributes Holy Communion, he does so in the same manner.
During the distribution of Holy Communion, appropriate hymns, psalms, or anthems may be sung.
