The last three Sundays preceding Ash Wednesday constitute the liturgical season of Pre-Lent. These Sundays are:

• Septuagesima

• Sexagesima

• Quinquagesima which is always the Last Sunday after the Epiphany and the Sunday just before Ash Wednesday.

During Pre-Lent, the color of vestments and antependia switches to violet, as in Lent, but images are not veiled.
