Setting (of the mass)
The setting of the mass is the musical arrangement used for the ordinary of the mass (ie Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei).
There are four settings that are typically used the the Cathedral of Our Lady of Walsingham, varying with the season. All are found in the hymnal.
Willan - Used in the seasons of Christmastide, Epiphanytide, and Eastertide, and on major solemnities.
Plainsong - Used during the seasons of Advent and Lent
Merbecke - Used on Sundays after Trinity for the Kyrie, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei.
Old Scottish Chant - Used on Sundays after Trinity for the Gloria.
